Steve May is a Bible teacher, author,
and speaker. He is a popular developer of preaching resource materials used by thousands of pastors worldwide. Each week Steve's Monday Memo is sent to 11,000 subscribers.
Born in 1959, Steve entered the ministry 6 months after finishing high school, working as a youth leader in a church-plant in Pauls Valley Oklahoma while attending a small non-denominational Bible college.
From there Steve moved on to attend Union University in Jackson TN, majoring in History with a minor in Greek. He continued to work in the ministry, pastoring churches in Oklahoma, Tennessee and California, eventually settling down as a writer in a small Tennessee community in 1994. He spent the next ten years writing preaching and teaching resources for pastors and ministry leaders.
During this time Steve teamed up with leaders such as Duffy Robbins, David Edwards and Ed Young of Fellowship Church to provide sermon resources for pastors; in 2003 Steve's publishing company was acquired by Christianity Today International. Steve stayed on as a contributing editor to Preaching Today.
In October 2004, acknowledging a growing restlessness to do something more, Steve took a sabbatical from writing and bought a ticket to Brasil with the idea of finding a place to do kingdom work among the poor.
From this idea developed Project Brasil, an expanding ministry in Rio de Janeiro offering educational opportunities, computer training and medical assistance to an impoverished community. As an unexpected result of this work, Steve says, "I came back to the task of writing and teaching with sharper focus and renewed enthusiasm. I love doing what I do—I love writing Bible studies—and this new avenue of ministry has turbocharged my preaching and my writing. I have a brand new perspective on what it means to be a follower of Jesus; I think the evangelical church is waking up to this as well. My focus these days is on this type of emerging discipleship."
Steve now divides his time between Rio and his
home in West Tennessee. |
