JANUARY 6, 2007: MUITO OCUPADO
Brasil pretty much shuts down for the last week of December and the
first week of January. (In fact, it runs pretty slow through most of
January.) This is when most people take their vacations
and many government offices are closed.
Schools are also closed for the summer holiday. We had our last
classes on December 20. School resumes the first week of February.
Our teachers get a short break; they come back to work the last week
of January. They'll spend a week fixing up the classroom, working on
the computers, preparing class lessons, etc. Then classes resume.
The street signs should come to life sometime next week; we're
waiting right now for it to be done.

JANUARY 20, 2007: QUICK UPDATE
There will be only a couple of updates this month -- for a couple of
reasons. One, it's summertime and the school is closed this month
and everyone's on vacation. Two, I'm a little swamped with some
business projects in the states. Our faithful workers are taking a
well-deserved and long overdue rest. In just a couple of weeks
they'll be back at it, getting ready for the new semester. I am
going to Rio later next month -- and I have a pretty full inbox here
right now. But there will be more updates toward the end of the
month. See you then.
